Akoma ("heart" in the Asante Twi language) is a drumming ensemble that performs music of the Asante people of Ghana, including kete, adowa, and fontomfrom.  The group is led by Yaw Amponsah, son of Ghanaian national treasure Koo Nimo.  Akoma has performed at Seattle's Folklife and Bumbershoot festivals, numerous venues at the University of Washington, the Seattle Art Museum, and the Suquamish Tribal Center, among many other places.  In addition to performance, its members are often asked to teach and demonstrate Asante music and culture in  universities and colleges across the Puget Sound region.
